JOB DESCRIPTION

The OSP/Fiber Designer will design and draft permitting and construction plans for Fiber Optic cable routes (both aerial and underground) to meet municipal and internal standards. Designer will be required to read and interpret utility and ROW information from various sources, determine viable routes based on that information alongside permitting & construction requirements, and draft all the above within AutoCAD and/or GIS for submission.

Designer must also be able to maintain project deadlines, provide status reports, conduct self-review, peer review, and be able to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a team.

Salary negotiable for candidates with extensive experience. Candidates must local to Michigan.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly
  • Remote (80%+, see below)
  • In-office (Southfield or Byron Center) for Onboarding and Training (First 1 – 3 weeks)
  • After Training: 4 Days in-office per quarter minimum
  • Equipment Provided

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • GIS Experience
    • Minimum of 1 Year Professional Experience, or 2+ Years Educational
  • AutoCAD Experience
    • Minimum of 1 Year Professional Experience, or 2+ Years Educational
  • Associate’s degree in an Engineering field or equivalent work experience
    • Prior Telecom experience, Non-Telecom Utility or Civil Engineering backgrounds highly preferred
  • Familiarity with Reading and Interpretation of Technical Drawings
    • Utility, Right-of-Way, and/or Road Construction plans (preferred)
    • Includes Site Plans, Blueprints, etc.
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook
  • General Computer Competence
  • Reliable Home Internet Service
  • Reliable Transportation

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS

·        Ability to work both independently and as a part of a collaborative team.

·        Strong Research and Critical Interpretation skills

·        Strong Communication, Writing, and other Interpersonal skills

·        Familiarity with GIS programs and services

·        Working knowledge of Google Earth and Google Maps

·        QC, Technical Training, Permitting, and/or Project Management experience a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 – $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
